This week’s casino news hones in on the state of Massachusetts with two key headlines. Let’s start with the revenue numbers as we gaming regulators in the state have released the latest.

Massachusetts Surpasses $1 Billion In Casino Revenue

It’s gravy in Massachusetts these days as the casino industry is roaring. Regulators have just announced that the state brought in $86 million from bettors during the month of February, which is a number that helped push the total casino gambling revenues to $1.018 billion since the state’s three properties first opened up. Those properties are the MGM Springfield, Plainridge Park Casino, and Encore Boston Harbor.

The state is happy with the collection because the money is expected to go to all sorts of public services. The revenue earned here is expected to heavily benefit aid and transportation in the state along with other infrastructure projects that could be in the works.

This recent total of $86 million from February happens to be a large increase from the $67.4 million that was reeled in during February of 2021. However, casinos were still being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic at that time. COVID-19 cases are again on the rise and although it appears we’re dealing with milder variants, we’ll have to see if that forces any shutdowns.

Two $100K Lottery Tickets Set To Expire In Massachusetts

Do you have the six-figure winning lottery numbers in Massachusetts? If so, go cash them in!

There are two winning tickets out there in the wild in the state of Massachusetts and nobody knows where they are. The lottery announced that there were two $100,000 Mass Cash prizes won in two separate drawings back in March of 2021, but if neither is claimed this week, both tickets are going to expire. That means the winners have less than seven days to claim their money.

The first ticket was reportedly sold at Ashmont Convenience Store, located in Dorchester. The other ticket was bought at Craven’s Package Store located in Groton.

In case you are wondering what happens to the money that expires, it is simply put into the net profit that the lottery hands back to the state. This money will then be distributed back out into all the cities and towns. If anybody happens to have a hold of one of these tickets, go claim the reward at the Lottery headquarters in Dorchester. Or, you could head down to one of the claim centers in West Springfield, Worcester, Braintree, Lawrence, and New Bedford. It’ll be a shame if they expire and someone finds out afterward.

The NCAA Tournament has reached its Final Four and regulators seem just about as pleased as anyone.

March Madness has always been one of the more popular sporting events of the year and now that sports betting has been legalized in many states, the numbers are through the roof. The American Gaming Association reported that roughly 45 million people are planning on betting on the tournament. This is about 17 percent of all American adults.

The total money that this number of wagers could total is estimated to be $3.1 billion as of right now. The report went deeper and said that 76 percent of Americans are going to place these bets outside of brackets, which is a good jump up compared to the 55 percent from 2021.

It’s not surprising that the totals are a lot larger in 2022 than in previous years. Since the last March Madness, Arizona, Connecticut, Maryland, Louisiana, Washington, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming and Wisconsin have all launched legal sports betting markets. In total, there are 30 states out there with legalized single-game sports wagering.
