Four years in, the Global Poker Awards have become the kind of staple in the poker calendar that the makers, The Hendon Mob, the Global Poker Index and PokerGO must have dreamed of. In six weeks, the 4th Annual Global Poker Awards will take place at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino.
With a total of 29 awards to be handed out to the great and even greater in the game, who might be winning when the gongs are handed out on March 3rd in Las Vegas?
Three New Categories on the Schedule
With the last year in poker being celebrated on PokerGO’s YouTube channel and the subscription service online at PokerGO.com, coverage starts at 8.30pm Eastern Time on Friday March 3rd. There will be three new awards for fans to get excited about, with trophies being handed out to the Best Comeback Player, the Rising Star in Content Creation, and Favorite Live Stream.
Whilst the content creation and comeback player categories are likely to be extremely well contested, it’s difficult to look past the Hustler Casino Live stream where Robbi Jade Lew ran into Garret Adelstein and ended up calling it off with jack-four. The hand was highly controversial and caused ructions throughout the poker world.
Content creation is massively important in the growth of the game in its next phase and if there is to be a second poker boom, then content creation is likely to be front and center in how that world is shaped. This is reflected in the 26 awards that are still on the ticket and at least one of those new three.
Regular Favorites Present
Back in February of 2022, the 3rd Annual Global Poker Awards were presented by Drea Renee and Jeff Platt, who went on to win the Best Broadcaster award on the night too. We took a look behind the scenes of the broadcast, and what makes the Global Poker Awards happen in the company of Eric Danis which was a fascinating insight into how the magic happens both in front of and behind the camera.
As we announced last week, this year’s 4th Annual Global Poker Awards are set to be the biggest ever and with iconic categories such as GPI Players Choice, Poker ICON, Best Final Table Performance, Best Vlogger, Best Streamer, and GPI Mid-Major Tour/Festival all being competed for, there will be some very close calls.
Two players will know already that they should perfect their speeches, pick something silky to strap on and head to the hairdresser, and in Stephen Song’s case, possibly do all those things twice. That’s because Song has been announced as GPI Player of the Year and GPI Mid-Major Player of the Year. Cherish Andrews is already confirmed as the GPI Female Player of the Year.
