Every poker player dreams of getting some priceless advice from a poker legend. For many of us, that dream is consigned to watching their Masterclass video series or reading Super System again. We all hope one day to be in the position to be bestowed a great gift from a poker Hall of Famer. For Landon Tice, possibly the best example of a poker player living the kind of life that would suggest that sims are real, everything came true this week as he purchased Daniel Negreanu’s Tesla. Yes, really.

The Gift That Keeps Giving

“He’s given the young ‘CatJammer’ the keys to the castle.”

In a video broadcast on Twitter, Landon Tice, who to date has earned $630,000 at the live felt and millions online before turning 24, the young phenom told the world his happy news.

“Today’s a very special day. After a long time telling friends and family – mostly family – that the first car I wanted to get was a Tesla, and it happened! We have the man himself, Daniel [Negreanu’s] old one. He’s given the young CatJammer the keys to the castle. He got a new car, he let me get the old one, so now… we have a car! No license, no insurance but we have a car!”

As you might expect, some of the comments were as wildly excitable as Tice himself was.

Tice is the poker world’s gift that keeps giving. To many, he is a reminder of years gone by, when Tom Dwan might have played with the same devil-may-care attitude at the felt. Amusingly, the pair both his trips in a fascinating pot that took place between the pair on the World Poker Tour. Tice, rocking the longest hair since Bon Jovi, got the better of the former Full Tilt Poker poster boy on that occasion.

The ‘CatJammer’ Without Claws?

“Enjoy the ride, young Jedi.”

On selling his beloved Tesla to Tice, Negreanu retweeted Tice’s excited video message, stating “Enjoy the ride Young Jedi…” as he wished the youngster luck in his former vehicle. One fan asked Negreanu if he’s decided against a Tesla as his car from now on, but the truth is the opposite.

“I did buy a new one and my wife has one also,” said Kid Poker, who has won six WSOP bracelets in his glittering career and only the other day broke down his profitable 2022 for the fans. As he went on, “[It’s the] coolest car I’ve ever been in! Love them.”

Tice himself update fans wondering if he’ll change the ‘DNEGS’ license plate, reassuring his legions of supporters that he’ll ‘obviously’ change the plate to ‘CATJAM’.

Other Poker Pros Riding Shotgun

“[You] don’t need [to] learn to drive if car drives itself.”

The problem, it would appear, is the lack of licence. Tice, who last year hinted at a $100,000 prop bet whereby he’d need to live at the WSOP venues of Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris for an entire year, cannot yet drive. Matt Berkey described the conversation he had with the young player “on the way to the pod”:

“Landon: Bought Dnegs car it arrives at 4 pm today

Matt: Did you get insurance?

Landon: I thought it was optional

Matt: Have you [transferred] the title?

Landon: ??

Me: Get new plates?

Landon: ??”

Berkey ended his comment with the legend, ‘Youth is wasted on the young.’

Others, however, thought the move wiser than at first it might have appeared, with WSOP Player of the Year challenger Dylan Weisman stating: “Don’t need [to] learn to drive if car drives itself strategy = executed.”

Another commenter, ‘Kelvin tha Cold’ spoke for many, saying: “He ain’t no Jedi yet with no license or insurance, still just a Padawan.”

While it seems no-one has any beef with anyone else as the minor bump in the road of obtaining a license is yet to be fulfilled, we’re fans of this automotive ‘passing of the baton’… or perhaps that should be lightsaber.
