Las Vegas will have a new casino added to the famous Strip come 2024 after workers broke ground on the Dream Las Vegas hotel and casino resort this weekend.
Dream Vegas is being built on the south end of the Strip, opposite Mandalay Bay and near the iconic Las Vegas Sign. It will be one of Sin City’s most southerly Strip casinos and be a stone’s throw away from Vegas airport.
The Peninsula Pacific Entertainment project is expected to cost an eye-watering $550m.
Nevada governor Steve Sisolak was present for the ground breaking, and said: “The Dream Las Vegas development is a great investment in our local economy – to boost tourism and create thousands of new jobs.
“I’m excited to see the resort come to life in 2024, offering even more first-class amenities and service, and extending our state’s long history as a leader in hospitality and tourism.”
Where Is Dream Las Vegas?
The Dream casino and hotel is being built at 5051 South Las Vegas Boulevard. The development is part of an “ongoing revitalisation and rejuvenation of the south end of the Las Vegas Strip,” which has often been overlooked by tourists seeking the bright lights further north.
Developers have a five-acre plot of land on which to build the hotel and casino. It will be fairly small compared to the megaresorts of the Mandalay Bay and Luxor, but nevertheless look impressive from the outside.
Congratulations to @dreamhotelgroup on groundbreaking for the Dream Las #Vegas!
The 20 story resort will be located at the south end of the Strip in @CommishJGibson's district. It's set to open in late 2024.

Its proximity to the airport could also make it the go-to place for new arrivals once they touch down in Nevada. Remarkably, the developers were forced to make a series of design changes before construction got underway, amid concerns its closeness to the airport could aid a terror threat.
Dream Hotel Group CEO Jay Stein said: “All of us at Dream are proud to play a role in creating what will be one of the most spectacular new additions to Las Vegas.
“Las Vegas is a destination much like our Dream Hotels brand, marked by a vibrant, youthful energy and dynamic cultural arts and entertainment scene unlike anywhere else in the world.”
Dream Casino Vegas Best Bits
New photos and details of what the Dream casino in Las Vegas should look like are beginning to emerge, and the project – first announced in February 2020 – is now underway.
It is being billed as a boutique hotel, and features:
- 531 hotel rooms
- 20-storey main building
- 20,000 sq ft of gaming floor
- 12,00 sq ft of meeting spaces
- $550m construction cost
- Third-floor pool deck
- Restaurants
- Night club
The casino itself will have a land-based gambling licence, although it is unclear whether it will have a sportsbook. There are currently no plans for a poker room.
Meanwhile, Peninsula Pacific’s assets are currently subject to an acquisition bid from Churchill Downs (CHDN) – the company that operates the Kentucky Derby. A $2.5bn deal is expected to be signed off by the end of 2022, while Churchill Downs recently sold some of its land owned in Florida to help pay for the takeover.
