Floyd Mayweather was one of the biggest winners from Dmitry Bivol’s stunning points victory over Canelo Alvarez Saturday as the sporting legend exploited the boxing betting odds to net more than $50,000 from a single wager.
Mayweather, 45, isn’t shy of putting his money where his mouth is, and wagered against his one-time opponent Canelo in the weekend’s light heavyweight title clash in Las Vegas.
Canelo had been the overwhelming favorite among online sports betting sites to beat Bivol in his step up to a new weight. So confident were the bookies that Canelo would win that they had driven his odds down as far as -450.
But the Mexican sensation – who had previously unified the super middleweight division – was unable to stop his Russian opponent and lost by unanimous decision.
And Mayweather was there to pick up his winnings.
Mayweather Bet On Canelo Loss
Own Sunday Mayweather posted a picture on his instagram feed showing his winning bet slip. The ticket detailed how he staked $10,000 on Bivol to win at odds of +425.
The bet was placed at the Silverton Casino Hotel, which is situated one road back from the Strip that runs through Sin City.
His wager earned Mayweather a $42,500 profit, meaning he walked away with $52,500 in total. He captioned the photo with the words: “Easy pick up.”
Mayweather famously beat Canelo back in September 2013 to claim the Mexican’s WBC and The Ring middleweight titles. He went on to have an undefeated boxing career, and recorded his 50th professional victory in 2017 when defeating UFC star Conor McGregor in a 10th-round TKO.
El boxeo es asĂ, a veces se gana y a veces se pierde, pero siempre con la frente en alto. Me quedo con la gran pelea que ofrecimos a la gente.

Will There Be A Canelo vs Bivol Rematch?
As for Canelo, his shock defeat means there will almost certainly be a rematch with Bivol. Such was the weight of betting on Canelo to win Saturday that his odds were artificially surpassed by bookmakers, who also expected the Mexican to blow Bivol away.
But the defending light heavyweight champion held firm against a Canelo onslaught and ground out the points victory, with all three judges scoring the fight 115-113 in his favor.
“This doesn’t end like this,” Canelo said when asked about a possible rematch.
Bivol also seems up for the challenge and said: “Let’s talk about a rematch. I wanted this fight because I wanted to get the opportunity and I appreciate this opportunity.
“I’m ready for a rematch, I just want to be treated as the champion now.”
There is perhaps more likelihood of a rematch taking place than not because Bivol is currently unable to fight other light heavyweight champions Artur Beterbiev or Joe Smith Jr, because the sanctioning bodies associated with their titles (the WBC, IBF and WBO) have banned Russians from fighting under their organisation.
