Could Jake Paul start his boxing career with 10 straight wins?
No matter the level of competition, it’s simply not easy to start a pro boxing career with 10 straight wins. One punch can end your night.
Thus, while former YouTube star Jake Paul is considered a bit of a sideshow by some, he has gained a level of respect in the boxing ring by starting his career at 5-0, including victories over former UFC fighters Tyron Woodley (twice) and Ben Askren. Could Paul start his career at 10-0? That could take perhaps until 2024 to cash, but it’s a yes-only prop at +950.
Who Is Next For Paul?
As of this writing, it’s not clear whom Paul might fight next or when. He was last in the ring in December in Tampa and beat the former UFC champion Woodley for the second straight bout, this time by sixth-round knockout. Paul sent Woodley face-first into the canvas with a vicious right hand. It was awarded KO of the year by both DAZN and ESPN. The first five rounds were basically devoid of action.
The first fight between Paul, 25, and the 39-year-old Woodley in August 2021 ended in a bit of a controversial split decision and was Woodley’s first pro fight as a boxer only.
“I don’t think I’d ever just do stuff like that anymore,” Tyson said recently. “I wanted to do it the first time just for fun, just to have fun. Then some people took it to another level and made it financial and the fun went out of it.”
Originally, Paul was to fight Tommy Fury last December, but Fury had to pull out due to medical issues and Woodley took the rematch on short notice. Fury is a younger half-brother of the heavyweight boxing world champion Tyson Fury, and Tommy Fury has said he hopes to fight Paul as soon as possible. Tommy Fury is 7-0 in his boxing career and made his USA debut on the undercard of the first Paul-Woodley fight.
Apparently, Paul will not fight former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who is 55 years old. Tyson hasn’t fought competitively since 2005 but did face former multiple-division champion Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition bout last November and it was a draw.
“I don’t think I’d ever just do stuff like that anymore,” Tyson said recently. “I wanted to do it the first time just for fun, just to have fun. Then some people took it to another level and made it financial and the fun went out of it.”
Potential opponents for Paul all are former/current UFC stars: Anderson Silva, Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. Silva, maybe the best MMA middleweight ever, is 3-1 in his boxing career, including a win over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Of course, McGregor acquitted himself well in a boxing match vs. unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. in August 2017 and that was a pay-per-view bonanza. Paul vs. McGregor would be, too.
