Talented American poker professional Jeremy Ausmus won his fourth WSOP gold bracelet as he took down Event #23, the Limit Hold’em 6-Max event. In his third win during an amazing last year at the felt, Ausmus eventually outlasted overnight chip leader Michael Rocco in stunning fashion.

Deeb Takes His Leave

Seven players made the trip to the last table of the tournament, but one more elimination was needed before the official final could be reached. Just before the final seven had made their trip to the same table, Shaun Deeb had lost his stack in eighth place, cashing for $11,980 as he fell short of glory but bagged plenty more $25k Fantasy points for his fans and investors in that perennial poker draft game.

It was Robert Como who busted in seventh place and therefore missed the official final six. Como, who cashed for $15,730, missed out on the serious money but outlasted others who ran deep in the event such as Brian Kim (10th), Jacob Ferro (21st) and Brian Hastings (30th).

Busting in sixth place was Andrew Kelsall, the only player other than Ausmus who had won a previous WSOP bracelet. Kelsall couldn’t get there with ace-eight against Gabe Ramos’s pocket jacks and busted for $21,170.

Ramos Runs Out of Luck

Five players remained, but that wasn’t the situation for very long at all. It was Mike Lancaster who busted next, cashing for $29,185 when his king-six couldn’t catch Ramos’ king-ten which both dominated and delivered his next victim. Ramos was threatening to run away with it, but the overnight chip leader was about to battle back.

Michael Rocco had come into play with the lead and he wanted it back. He took out Zachary Grech in fourth place for $41,191 when Grech’s king-jack couldn’t find the help it desperately needed against Rocco’s pocket queens.

Ausmus was playing dominant poker himself at this point, and when he eliminated Ramos in third place he took the chip lead into heads-up. Ramos thought he had another winner with pocket jacks, but Ausmus held pocket aces and they remained in front along the community cards to send Ramos home with $59,486.

Ausmus and Rocco Battle for Gold

Rocco was taking on the eventual winner but picked exactly the wrong time to do so. With Ausmus ahead, Rocco made a bluff with nothing at all on a board showing Q-5-4-2-8 and Ausmus made an outrageously good call with only a pair of fives.

Not long after, the final hand played out, Ausmus collecting the title and $142,147 top prize and leaving Rocco to receive the runner-up prize of $87,854.

Afterwards, Ausmus shared his delight at winning the fourth bracelet of his illustrious career on Twitter.

With winnings of almost $6 million at the World Series of Poker and three bracelets in the last year, four-time gold holder Jeremy Ausmus didn’t just outlast 212 others along the road to victory in Event #23. He reminded them just how great he really is at tournament poker and its many vicissitudes.
