UFC sensation Conor McGregor has become the new face of me88, an Asian casino site that is relatively unknown in North America and Europe.
The sponsorship agreement sees McGregor – the most famous MMA fighter of all time – become me88’s Brand Ambassador in Southeast Asia.
The UFC featherweight and lightweight champion has already done a photo shoot and some video filming with me88, and the company is expected to showcase the Irishman on multiple occasions over the next couple of years.
McGregor, who is expected to earn millions of dollars from the endorsement, said: “It is an honor to join fists with me88 to help them expand their brand in Southeast Asia.
“I am very excited to be a part of more of their marketing initiatives as a brand ambassador, as well as to interact with more sports fans in the region and share my experience and knowledge in the field.”
What Is me88?
The news of McGregor’s brand ambassadorship with me88 has immediately drawn attention to what me88 is. The fighter has previously done sponsorship deals with Beats by Dre, Proper No. Twelve whisky, Monster Energy, and Reebok, but never a gambling firm in Asia.
me88 is an online casino and sportsbook available to players in Singapore and Malaysia. Its website features dozens on online casino games such as slot machines and roulette tables, while its sportsbook primarily focuses on soccer.
The company describes itself as the “No.1 Trusted Online Casino in Singapore”.
McGregor’s deal with me88 was crafted between his own talent management agency, Paradigm Sports, and Outlast Sports Entertainment.
James Snider, me88’s spokesperson, said: “me88 is dedicated to being a reliable destination platform that serves the best variety of options for our members. Our tagline “play safe play me” exists for this very reason. We are excited to work closely with Conor McGregor, with his dynamic presence as a fighter and personality and are looking forward to collaborating with him to engage more fight enthusiasts in the region on our platform.”
McGregor is thought to be worth around $200m and his face is now expected to be plastered across advertising boards and online in Southeast Asia.
The 34-year-old hasn’t fought since losing to Dustin Poirier for a second time in July 2021. He has lost three of his last four UFC fights.
