Obreshkov Among the Leaders of Day 1c of WSOP Online Main Event

The third Day 1 flight in the 2022 World Series of Poker’s Online Main Event saw a total o 69 players put up the $5,000 entry fee and take their chances in order to battle for glory. When the dust settled, only 103 of those men and women had made the next day’s play, and with only five more Day 1 flights to come before Day 2 takes place on September 26^th, players battled hard to survive on a day of drama.

The Numbers Game on Day 1c of WSOP Online Main Event

Once again, the numbers were strong on Day 1c. After a Day 1a flight that saw the progress of the 2013 world champion Ryan Riess and a Day 1b last Sunday that saw both online crushers Niklas Astedt and Marius Gierse survive, there was never any reason to doubt that Day 1c was going to be just as monumental in terms of player attendance.

A total of 1,813 entries have already gone into the can after three opening flights, and that’s a very healthy number considering the latter flights are usually the busier by far. The Day 1s will arrive with greater frequency from now on, with Day 1d on Sunday 18^th, and further flights on Tuesday 20^th September (Day 1e), Thursday 22^nd September (Day 1f), Saturday 24^th September (Day 1g) and Sunday 25^th September (Day 1h). Day 2 takes place on the day after the final Day 1 flight, on Tuesday 26^th September.

On Day 1c, 103 players survived, with players of real repute part of the pack who made it through, such as Stoyan Obreshkov, Leonard Maue and Canadian Pascal Lefrancois all making it through to Day 2. With a whopping guarantee of $20 million, there is already over $8.6 million in the kitty.

Who Bagged the Most Chips?

The top 10 chipcounts on Day 1c of the WSOP Online Main Event were filled with some very well-known poker players. Top of the shop was French player Luc Bindel, playing under the pseudonym ‘AAlataKK’. It’s not clear how many aces against kings he got, but he saw off plenty of opposition to bag the lead with a massive 1,341,648 in chips.

Bindel was the only player to top a ‘milly’ on Day 1c, but along with Day 1a and Day 1b’s stand-out performers, will be one of six chip-millionaires in Day 2 already. The others who have topped that landmark amount are: Xing He, Marius Gierse, David Yan, Leonard Mendes and Alexandru Baron.

While Bindel enjoyed a night to remember, other players endured a day to forget and will only have one rebuy option (costing $5,000) to come, with players such as Polish online wizard Wiktor Malinowski, famous live and online pro Peter Chen and Austrian WSOP 2022 bracelet winner Jessica Teusl all falling by the wayside during a rollercoaster day at the felt.

Other Top 10 Stacks

Bindel wasn’t the only big name to make it through with an above-average stack. Second in chips to Bindel when play ceased for the night was Mexico-based ‘Doctor Wily’ (991,840), with Kazahkstan’s ‘BAExDAS’  (964,461) and Bulgarian poker professional Stoyan Obreshkov (943,045), who has won over $1.2 million at the live felt and over $450,000 in WSOP events alone.

Gaby Blaaspijp (936,111) from the Netherlands rounded out the top five, while he was followed by German player Leonard Maue (920,141) and Italian Gabriele Re (878,640). Maue in particular will be a threat, having won an EPT Barcelona side event in August for $670,527, the biggest single result of his career to date.

Rounding out the top 10, Canadian Pascal Lefrancois (869,341) is sure to be a player to watch when Day 2 aligns the Day 1 survivors into one conjoined field. Lefrancois is followed by Israeli player ‘tadc’ (861,890) and Argentinian Franco Spitale (754,426) who ended the night in 10^th place on over three-quarters of a million chips.
