The Global Poker Awards are one of the highlights of the calendar year in poker. Awarding the best players, broadcasters and even writers a golden gong in Las Vegas, the show is put out live for free on PokerGO and with collaboration from The Global Poker Index® and The Hendon Mob, gives back to the game like no other ceremony. This year’s glitzy gathering looks set to be the best yet.

When Do the Global Poker Awards Take Place?

This year’s Global Poker Awards take place in central Las Vegas at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA, with the official date now released – Friday, March 3rd, 2023. Kicking off at 8.30pm Eastern Time, and with over 25 awards being presented on the night, there are still plenty of questions yet to be answered. These include what those categories will be and who will be presenting the awards. Last year, Jeff Platt and Drea Renee shared the mic during a fun evening celebrating poker.

The GPI promise that there are new categories to be unveiled as more news will emerge in the forthcoming days and weeks. Eric Danis, the President of the Hendon Mob and Global Poker Index, spoke to us last year and was kind enough to take us behind the scenes of the 3rd annual Global Poker Awards.

We can’t wait to see what his super-talented team come up with in 2023. The whole show will be broadcast on PokerGO® and goes out live from Aria Resort & Casino, the home of the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas.

Which Categories are Confirmed?

There may be some new categories coming, but not all of them will be a surprise. The GPI Player of the Year, Poker ICON and Player’s Choice for Toughest Opponent award all make a welcome return in 2023. Also present and correct is the Best Poker Vlogger category, which is sure to be one of the most fiercely competed brackets of the awards.

Although most new categories haven’t been revealed, one has. That’s the Rising Star in Content Creation category, which will be presented to a new creator who has “made the biggest impression in 2022”. Surely an early favorite for this one has to be the YouTube channel Greg Goes All-In. The opening voting round for this category opens soon.

As with every year, those who are on the Global Poker Awards member list will get a vote in each category, rounding nominees down from a long list to a shortlist of four. The winner from each set of four final nominees will then be revealed on the night in Las Vegas.

Who Won in 2022 and Might Win Again?

There were a raft of winners in 2022 that could well succeed again in the same section or a different bracket entirely. Last year, several awards were won by favorites in their categories, such as Brad Owen (Best Vlogger) and Jamie Kerstetter (Best Twitter Personality), as both nominees picked up their second Global Poker Awards in 2022.

Benjamin Spragg (Best Streamer), Christian Zetzsche (Best Live Tournament Reporter),  Poker in the Ears/James Hartigan & Joe Stapleton for PokerStars (Best Podcast), Remko Rinkema (Best Media Content – Video) and Jeff Platt (Best Broadcaster) must all be fancied to add to their poker gongs in 2023.

With Stephen Song and Cherish Andrews both winning the Global Poker Index Player of the Year awards just last week it’s quite possible both win Global Poker Awards in the 4th annual Global Poker Awards, and  with Best Hand of the Year and Breakout Player of the Year sure to be hard-fought categories, we can’t wait to find out who is nominated for the longlist in the coming weeks.
