US Open Odds 2024 – Thomas, Scheffler Favored At Brookline

Posted by Joe Ellison .

The 2022 U.S. Open heads back to historic Country Club at Brookline in Massachusetts for the first time in 34 years. Jon Rahm is your reigning champion, but the field is expected to be loaded with a dozen or so rivals looking to dethrone the 2021 U.S. Open champion. Leading up to the first round on June 16, bookmakers have posted early 2022 U.S. Open odds on the board as golf betting season heats up for the second half. 2016 champion Dustin Johnson will also be in the field as the USGA will allow players that have gone to the LIV series, but qualify, to tee it up at Brookline.

Most Recent US Open Winners

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm entered the US Open as the favorite, and fresh off a disappointing conclusion to the Memorial Tournament, which he led by six strokes going into the final round. However, a late positive COVID-19 test forced Rahm to withdraw, missing out on the win and a huge payday.

But Rahm fought back and made clutch birdie putts on the final two holes at Torrey Pines to get to -6, and he would pick his first major championship. It was fitting for Rahm to win at Torrey Pines, where he won his PGA Tour tournament in 2017, and where he proposed to his now-wife, Kelley. Three generations were present, including Rahm’s infant son, Kepa, on Father’s Day. It was almost meant to be.

Louis Oosthuizen would finish one shot behind Rahm, and Harris English would finish solo third.

Bryson DeChambeau

Nicknamed “The Scientist”, DeChambeau is known for his scientific approach to the game. He decided that the longer you can hit it, the more success you’ll have, so DeChambeau set out to gain as much weight as he could. Forty pounds later, DeChambeau went to Winged Foot and was the only player to finish under par as his 69-68-70-67 was good for a -6 score, six shots better than Matthew Wolff. It is DeChambeau’s lone major championship to date.

Gary Woodland

Woodland was a relative longshot heading into Pebble Beach in California in 2019, and he started out with a first-round 68. A 65 on Friday vaulted him into the lead, and he wouldn’t give it up as Woodland went 69-69 over the weekend to secure his first and only major championship to date. Brooks Koepka was three shots behind Woodland at -10, while Jon Rahm, Chez Reavie, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele all sat at -7.

Brooks Koepka

Koepka had longer odds than you would have expected in 2018 as the defending U.S. Open champion at Shinnecock Hills in New York. An opening-round 75 didn’t do him any favors, either. However, Koepka shot a 66 on Friday to get into contention, shot a steady 72 on Saturday, and then held on for a final-round 68. That gave Koepka a tournament-winning score of +1, one shot better than Tommy Fleetwood and two shots over Dustin Johnson, who was tied for the lead with Koepka, Tony Finau and Daniel Berger going into the final round. It was Koepka’s second of his four major championships.

Brooks Koepka

In 2017, Koepka had the same odds as he did in 2018 to start the U.S. Open, but you could argue he should have had much longer odds. He opened up at Erin Hills in Wisconsin with a 67 and backed it up with a 70 to go into the weekend tied for the lead with Paul Casey, Fleetwood and Brian Harman. Koepka stayed near the top of the leaderboard with a Saturday 68, and then went one lower with a 67 to shoot -16, four shots better than Harman and Hideki Matsuyama. It was Koepka’s first major championship.

Dustin Johnson

Even in 2016, there was controversy. Johnson opened up with a 67 and 69, then shot 71 on Saturday and Sunday due to poor weather that started on Thursday and pushed tee times back all weekend. Johnson and Andrew Landry trailed by four shots behind Shane Lowry, but Lowry struggled to a final-round 76. Johnson should shoot 69 to finish at -4, three shots ahead of Jim Furyk, Lowry and Scott Piercy for his first major championship. However, he was docked a shot after his round as he mistakenly made his ball moved on the fifth green and he still putted.

The Country Club of Brookline

The Country Club at Brookline in Massachusetts will host the 2022 U.S. Open for the first time since 1988 when Curtis Strange defeated Nick Faldo in a playoff. Not only is The Country Club one of the oldest CC in the country, it’s also one of five charter clubs that help found the USGA (United States Golf Association). It first hosted the U.S. Open back in 1913 when Francis Ouimet won in a playoff with a score of +12.
