So, one hand we have Nadal hobbled and on another we have the storyline of Novak Djokovic’s first major of 2022 due to easing COVID-19 health and safety protocols around France. The Joker heads into the tournament the +160 favorite to win, but rather than the “King of Clay” Nadal as the second-favorite, it’s possibly the guy he’ll hand the torch to in Carlos Alcaraz who boasts +175 odds to win at Roland-Garros just behind Djokovic. Nadal, who will have his personal doctor on hand to help with treatment throughout the tournament, owns the third-best odds at +325.

How to Read Tennis Match Odds

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to read the most common French Open tennis odds.

Player Spread Moneyline Total
Arthur Rinderknech +5 +500 O20
Jannik Sinner -5 -700 U20

When betting the SPREAD, you’re wagering on how many games the tennis player will win by. So, in the example above, Sinner needs to win by 6-or-more games to cover the spread or Rinderknech needs to lose by 4-or-fewer games OR win the match outright.

When betting the MONEYLINE, you’re simply betting on which player you think will win the match outright. If you like the heavy favorite Sinner, you’ll need to wager $700 for every $100 you’d like to win. If you like Rinderknech to pull off the upset, wager $100 to win $500.

The match total is Over/Under how many games will be played. In this example the total line is Over/Under 20 games. Should Sinner-Rinderknech play exactly 20 games, the bet is a PUSH, and you’re original wager is returned to you.

2022 French Open Women’s Odds

Bookmakers and the betting public love Iga Swiatek to win her second French Open title in three years. At -125, it;s one of the few times a major tennis tournament favorite has enjoyed minus money before the tournament started. Simona Halep – who won at Roland-Garros back in 2018 – is the second favorite, but all the way back at 9-to-1 odds, while Ons Jabeur and Paula Badosa are the only other two players on the women’s draw to enjoy better than 20-to-1 odds.

2022 French Open Favorites

Novak Djokovic (+160)

Djokovic was not allowed to participate in the Australian Open due to his COVID-19 vaccination status.

He’s 85-15 all-time at Roland-Garros with an 80.6% winning percentage on clay.

Iga Swiatek (-125)

The 2020 French Open champ won at Doha and Indian Wells in 2022 and boasts a 35-6 record on clay courts.

If she’s missing anything, it’s lack of experience at Roland-Garros with only 16 matches under her belt.

Carlos Alcaraz (+175)

This 19-year-old Spaniard turned pro back in 2018, but has already lept to No. 6 in the world. He recently won back-to-back clay court tournaments in Madrid and Barcelona.

He’s 28-8 all-time on clay.

Simona Halep (+900)

After winning the Melbourne title to kick off the 2022 season, Halep has struggled as of late. She was bounced from the Australian Open in the round of 16 and Doha in the round of 64. She lost to Swiatek in the semifinals at Indian Wells.

Halep has won 73% of her clay matches throughout her career.

Rafa Nadal (+325)

A 13-time French Open champion, Nadal suffered the fractured rib in the Indian Wells semifinals. He reached the finals in all four tournaments this season and won three including the Australian Open major.

Now 35 years old, father time is not on Nadal’s side and the injuries are mounting every year.

Ons Jabeur (+1600)

The 6th-ranked player on the women’s tour, Jabeur just lost to Swiatek in the finals of the clay court tournament in Rome. She did, however, take home the championship in Madrid back in late-April.

With 73 clay court matches on her resume, she’s won nearly 73% of them, but has struggled at the French Open with just a 13-8 record.
